How can Yoga help?

Yoga poses provide relief to stiff and damaged joints. Yoga’s controlled movements and gentle pressure reaches deep into troubled joints.

In addition, the controlled stretches in conjunction with deep breathing exercises, relax and release the muscles that have seized up around the joints while trying to protect them.

Balancing Body Chemistry

When people don’t exercise and are under constant stress, their body chemistry becomes more acidic, making it difficult to take in oxygen. When the body is in an acidic state it also goes into a state of breakdown. In other words, it releases chemicals into the blood that are catabolic. This breakdown contains a myriad of toxins that find their way into the joints and cause inflammation.

This pollution is transported through the blood and among other things, causes a tired, cloudy and hazy feeling. If the acidity accumulates in the stomach, it eventually results in stomach ulcers.
Yoga helps to regulate body chemistry. This is very important especially for premenopausal and menopausal women who want to find ways to manage shifting hormones naturally. It provides the brain with a stronger coping mechanism and aids in increased awareness within one’s self. Yoga poses are designed to aid in releasing chemicals that contribute to a better sense of well being..

Lubricates the Joints

The practice of yoga increases the lubrication within the joints. It emphasizes work on precision and correct alignment.

Because the poses can be fluid or held for a set time, it gives the body an opportunity to increase blood supplies. These poses also help to correct and align the joints, ligaments and tendons, providing support the body needs to move and function properly.

It is also important to eat  foods that contain “good” fats (in moderation) such as avocado, almonds, flaxseed oil, etc., as they also provide adequate lubricating “oils”.

It’s never to late to start practicing yoga, helping to reduce the pain of arthritis and aging, thus improving one’s health and well being.
